Practical Pepper Spray

This is a great article on good daily carry options for OC spray.

Everyday Carry OC

There are a lot of options out there. Some are too big (good for cops but not regular folks) and some have strange or impractical safeties. Pig Money explores some good options.

Make the Best of the Worst

When you are in a fight you have to take the best shot you have. When fighting a taller opponent you may feel like staying outside where it feels safe but playing “safe” can put you on the losing end of a war of attrition.

Taking that hit to close distance could end the fight but that is what you need to get inside where you can deliver your weapons. Staying outside leaves you in your opponent’s workspace (though if you can stay far enough away so he can’t hit you I’m curious as to why you aren’t running).

This is an excellent video that looks at this dynamic. While the presenter is speaking from a Wing Chun perspective, the concepts are universal.

Chief of Interpol Considers Armed Citizens After Nairobi Attack

Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble. That’s right.

ABC News reports:

“Societies have to think about how they’re going to approach the problem,” Noble said. “One is to say we want an armed citizenry; you can see the reason for that. Another is to say the enclaves are so secure that in order to get into the soft target you’re going to have to pass through extraordinary security.”

“Ask yourself: If that was Denver, Col., if that was Texas, would those guys have been able to spend hours, days, shooting people randomly?”

“What I’m saying is it makes police around the world question their views on gun control. It makes citizens question their views on gun control. You have to ask yourself, ‘Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?’ This is something that has to be discussed.”
